Maleic anhydride is a white, crystalline substance with an offensive odour. It is a cyclic anhydride of maleic acid.

Due to its structure, which consists of two acid carbony groups and a double bond, maleic anhydride can be used in a variety of industrial applications. In 1830s, the first maleic anhydride as well as maleic and fumaric acids were created.

Maleic anhydride is produced when butane and benzene are added to a hot air stream and heated to much higher temperatures before passing through a catalyst bed. In contrast to the benzene approach, which uses vanadium pentoxide and molybdenum trioxide, the butane method uses vanadium phosphate as a catalyst.

The leading regions with the highest imports of maleic anhydride Bahamas and Bermuda and is followed by Spain and the United Kingdom.

For the creation of 1,4-butanediol, y-butyrolactone, succinic acid, unsaturated polyester resin, and alkyd resin, maleic anhydride is used as the raw material. Other than that, it is utilised in pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

lt is employed in the synthesis of organic compounds, as a collector in metal dressing, and as an intermediate in the creation of synthetic fibres.

It is a vital unsaturated organic anhydride chemical product that is also used to create unsaturated polyester resin, coatings, ink, and paper additives, products for the food and pharmaceutical industries, and 1-phenyl-3, 6-dihydroxypyridazine, a precursor to pyridazin and pyrethroid insecticides like permethrin, fungicide, and captan.
