Speeding Tickets

In Michigan, motorists are allowed to operate on roads and highways as long as they have a valid driver, enhanced driver, operator, or commercial driver license. The license is issued and monitored by the Secretary of State. This agency is responsible for motorists, and therefore, has access to information such as moving violations, crashes, drug crimes, and other non-moving violations that involve roads and highways and your license. The Secretary of State also has access to similar information from other states.

Speeding is a moving violation that will result in points assessed to your Secretary of State record as well as your insurance record (Link to Insurance Point Guidelines). The following chart explains how many points you’ll receive if you’re found responsible for speeding. Also on the chart, we’ll list how many points you’d receive for Limited Access speeding violations (freeways).
