What documents do I need when applying for a Global talent visa?

The Global Talent visa is a category of UK immigration visa for those who are bright and promising in specialised subjects including science, humanities, engineering, the arts, and technology and desire to work in the UK. This UK visa establishes a new immigration category that allows competent applicants to settle in the UK after three years and potential candidates after five years. You may also be eligible to apply for British citizenship after completing your settlement application and the required residency period in the UK.

The Global Talent visa, which was announced by the UK government in its statement of amendments on 30 January 2020, became effective on February 20, 2020. The Global Talent visa will replace the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa for individuals applying after February 20, 2020, while the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent route will remain open for ILR applications only. The Global Talent visa is identical to the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa that preceded it. It is a common misconception that Global Talent is a new path; rather, it is a simplification and expansion of existing regulations.

What is the procedure for obtaining a UK Global Talent visa?

You can apply for a Global Talent visa from inside or outside the United Kingdom. If you are already residing in the country, you can apply for a transfer of your current visa to a Global Talent visa. You can switch your existing Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 5, Tier 4 (excluding Short-Term Student Visa), Start-Up, and Innovator visa for a Global Talent visa. The application is made online if you are applying from within the UK.

On the other hand, if you are applying from outside the country you can register for entry clearance at the nearest visa appointment centre.

What are the qualifications for a global talent visa?

All candidates must receive sponsorship from one of six recognised endorsing groups in order to be permitted entry into the United Kingdom under the Global Talent visa category.

If you are seeking endorsement in science, engineering, medicine, social science, the humanities, or other academic professions and research, the Home Office will send your application to the Royal Society, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Royal Academy of Engineering, or British Academy. Based on your profile and the information you give, one of these endorsing organisations will make an endorsement decision.

Your application will be referred to Arts Council England or Tech Nation if you apply for endorsement in a non-academic discipline such as arts and culture or digital technology.

When applying for a UK Global Talent visa, what documentation do I need to bring?

Individuals who wish to enter the UK via the Global Talent route must undertake the following two steps- apply for an endorsement, and then apply for the Global Talent visa once the endorsement has been received.

To submit a successful UK Global Talent visa application, you must include the following information:

  • A valid passport or other kinds of travel authorization

  • Your tuberculosis test results, if you are from a country where the test is necessary.

  • Your endorsement letter

  • Payment of the immigration health surcharge and application fee.

Moreover, a person requesting entry clearance must obtain 70 points.

To score the required points, the applicant must meet the following criteria

  • You have received an endorsement letter from an endorsing body

  • Your endorsement is not more than three months old at the time you submit your application

  • Your endorsement has not been revoked by the endorsing organisation.

If you are denied an endorsement, you may be able to request an Endorsing Review from the appropriate endorsement authority.

How long does it take to get a Global Talent visa?

It can take up to 28 days for an endorsement application to be processed. If you apply from outside the UK, it can take up to three weeks, and if you apply from within the UK, it can take up to eight weeks.

Applicants for digital technology endorsements, on the other hand, may request that their application be expedited in specific instances.

Priority visa applications may be available in some situations, and applicants do not have to wait for the endorsement to be granted before applying for the visa – however, they do so at their own risk because if the endorsement application is denied, the visa application will be denied as well.

What are the advantages of obtaining a Global Talent Visa?

The Global Talent visa comes with a number of benefits, including:

  • If a UK based company wants to hire you, they do not need to have a Sponsor Licence. You can work for an employer, be a director of a company, or be self-employed in the field you were endorsed in.

  • If you enter the UK using the Exceptional Promise route, you can apply for settlement after five years, or three years if you obtain a Global Talent visa.

  • You are not required to notify the Home Office if you change jobs.
